Reservoir Simulation
JewelSuite™ is the only software that can build accurate models which have complex geology. Our patented gridding system allows you to build realistic models and provides deep integration between static and dynamic modeling. It is a smooth translation between your geologic model and the simulation models. JewelSuite™ is the only software to translate static models smoothly and accurately to dynamic simulation models. JewelSuite™ Simulation Made Easy provides the following benefits:
- Accurate simulation results. Research from StatoilHydro show JewelSuite’s™ patented gridding technology to generate much more accurate results in simulation than models generated by other gridding methods.
- Fast model updating and scenario building, from geometry scenarios to development options. Dynamic simulation of these models can be controlled fully from within JewelSuite™, while connecting intimately to a number of industry simulators (Eclipse, Sensor and soon new simulators).
- Multiple stacked reservoirs can be modeled and simulated in 1 system.
- Highly updatable: move easily back and forth between your geological and simulation model
Finite difference reservoir simulation functionality in JOA® JewelSuite™ is provided by IMEX, a commercial reservoir simulator by Computer Modeling Group (CMG) from Calgary.
Besides a fully integrated link with IMEX, JewelSuite™ also provides a fully integrated solution for Sensor® (Coats Engineering) and Eclipse™ simulations.
Multiple reservoir simulation cases can be defined and started simultaneously either on a local pc or remote simulation server.
Multiple simulation cases can be defined containing unique inputs and settings for each simulation run allowing for case or scenario management - both useful uncertainty management tools. The following areas are defined per simulation case and can be edited in separated views:
- General settings
- PVT Regions
- Relative Permeability regions
- Reservoir Descriptions
- Faults
- Platforms
- Separators
- Wells
- Lift tables
- Times
All reservoir simulation inputs can be easily entered during the pre-processing stages. During the simulation run you can monitor the simulation process in the logging view. Once the simulation is ready, all results are automatically imported and available for analysis.
Time based properties can be animated on the 2D or 3D grid structures. Using advanced charting capabilities well and field results can also be compared at this point.
History data can be imported to support the history matching process.
Example: Oil saturation(SO) grid property, simulated and generated by a SENSOR™ simulation run on a JOA® Grid
Results are immediately available for analysis in JewelSuite™ using various tools and techniques during and after completion of simulation runs.
Time-dependent grid properties can be animated in 2D / 3D while field, region, and well production results from one or multiple cases can be compared using advanced XY plots and user interface controls.
Using the JewelSuite™ Calculator, advanced volume differences can be calculated and animated over time. This allows the user to compare and analyze the effects of different reservoir simulation cases visually. The effect of drilling a new well on other regions of your reservoir can be illustrated, for example.
History data can be imported to support the history matching process.
Example: Example of field totals of cumulative gas and oil

IMEX
IMEX is the full featured Black Oil simulator developed by Computer Modeling Group (CMG) from Calgary. IMEX models the flow of three phase fluids in gas, gas-water, oil-water, and oil-water-gas reservoirs. It models in one, two, or three dimensions, including complex heterogeneous faulted structures.
- IMEX is a comprehensive numerical reservoir simulation tool that models primary, secondary, and pseudo-miscible and polymer injection processes in naturally or hydraulically fractured reservoirs.
- IMEX incorporates CMG's advanced Well/Production Management module, as well as specialized well features to model complex reservoirs. These features account for wellbore crossflow and/or multi-lateral horizontal wells.
- IMEX couples directly to a sophisticated surface facilities program, to model dry or wet gas flow from the reservoir, through a complex surface network facility, to the gas plant.
- IMEX models multiple PVT and equilibrium regions as well as multiple rock types and has flexible relative permeability choices. Regardless of the size or complexity of your reservoir problem, IMEX is an effective tool for a broad range of reservoir management issues including:
- primary depletion and IOR predictions of undersaturated and saturated reservoirs performing below bubble point
- coning studies
- reservoir performance under surface constraints
- secondary recovery; water flood and gas injection
- enhanced recovery; miscible and pseudo-miscible injection and WAG processes
- gas deliverability and forecasting
Sensor®
Sensor® is a generalized 3D model for simulating compositional and black oil problems in single-porosity, dual-porosity, and dual permeability reservoirs, developed by Coats Engineering. The model provides unparalled results in terms of speed, accuracy, stability, reliability, and ease-of-use. It runs in a fraction of the cpu time required by other reservoir simulators, for both black oil and compositional pvt descriptions, enabling unprecedented levels of detail and accuracy in your studies, and allowing you to make much better and faster decisions.
Eclipse™
Eclipse™ is the Schlumberger reservoir simulator for black oil, compositional and various other problems. It’s widely used in the industry and now also fully integrated as a JewelSuite™ plug-in. You can easily setup your Eclipse simulation deck in JewelSuite™ using the case management tools. This allows flexible and intuitive management of your reservoir simulations.
Besides setting up your decks, JewelSuite™ also provides the option to start the simulations interactively and then analyze the results during and after the runs. Once the simulation results are available you can analyze the results using the JewelSuite™ post-processing tools like 3D visualization, animation and XY plots.
