Data IO Overview

JewelSuite provides great compatibility with other industry applications, for instance to easily exchange models with other modeling packages like Petrel, Roxar or SKUA. In addition, JewelSuite allows for models to be exported in RESCUE B format. Furthermore, JewelSuite is also able to load WITSML data.

JewelSuite™ provides various ways to import and export your data. In most cases, data will be imported from and exported to a file. Various industry standard formats are supported, as well as ASCII file formats and XML based formats (JewelSuite™ specific formats). In JOA® JewelSuite™ data object import and export is supported in 4 ways:

1. Support of many industry standard formats for:

  • Seismic data: SEGY format (2D or 3D segy files)
  • Polyline set / Fault stick data: OpenWorks, gOcad, Charisma, IESX, CPS, IRAP, ACSII, OpenSpirit, CSV 
  • 2D Grid data: Charisma, CPS, IRAP, Surfer, ZMAP, JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, ASCII, OpenSpirit
  • Shape data: gOcad, Surfer, XY-ID, ASCII 
  • Surfaces data: gOcad, Charisma, CPS, IRAP, Surfer, ZMAP, IESX 
  • 3D Grid data + properties: JOA® Grid, Eclipse GRDECL ascii 
  • Well header + deviation data: OpenWorks, Petrel Well Deviation, CVS, Roxar, OpenSpirit, ASCII, Geographix ASCII2, 3 and 4 
  • Marker set / Well tops data: OpenWorks, Petrel Well Tops, CVS, OpenSpirit, ASCII, Geographix ASCII2, 3 and 4 
  • Well Logs data: LAS format, OpenWorks, OpenSpirit, ASCII, Geographix ASCII4 
  • Well design data: ASCII 
  • Image data: BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG 
  • Simulation deck: SENSOR decks (.dat files), ECLIPSE decks (.data) 
  • Simulation results: SENSOR (fort.61, fort.71), ECLIPSE (.INIT, .FINIT, .SMSPEC, .FSMSPEC) 
  • Historical data: CVS, Schedule (.vol), ASCII, Geographix ASCII2, 3 and 4

2. Support of ASCII based formats for the following objects in JewelSuite™:

  • GsLib import and export of grid properties in simulation box

Due to the comprehensive design of all objects in JewelSuite™ and the .NET based architecture, JOA® can easily develop additional data I/O support for any custom or not yet supported industry standard format. JewelSuite™ also provides an Open Spirit plug-in, opening up connectivity to 13+ data stores. Using the JewelSuite™ plug-in architecture, additional file formats and database connections can be easily created to support your own data format preferences and to ensure optimal data integration with your existing application and workflow tools.

Various industry standard formats are supported for importing your reservoir modeling data, for example SEG-Y seismic data, Eclipse grids, ZMAP grids, Petrel Well Data, LAS log properties etc. (See table 1 for a complete overview of supported formats.)  Furthermore, an overall project file (.jewel), which is XML based, is available to serialize a whole project context and settings of your existing JewelSuite™ run. If the supported industry standards are not sufficient, the various ASCII formats (which are keyword based) can always be used to import data, and the conversion to this format is easily realized. JOA® can always assist in this area to get data into JewelSuite™.

Geographics™ The Geographix Well Data Import Plug-In for JewelSuite™ allows you to easily import well data from your Geographix application and start using this data in JewelSuite™ for 3D model building.

The following well data can be imported in JewelSuite™ using this plug-in:  
  1. Well head and deviation data
  2. Well completion data 
  3. Well marker / top data 
  4. Well production data 
  5. Well log / curve data


OpenSpirit® is a data and application integration framework for the Oil & Gas industry that can streamline your work processes.

  Jewel Suite plugin Open Spirit
By using the OpenSpirit plug-in for the JewelSuite™ application, the user
can access all datastore connections that are available in the framework.
Together with the Data Selector and other OpenSpirit utilities, JewelSuite™
is enhanced to support all data that is typically used during a common
OpenSpirit based workflow. Even connections to other application adaptors
can be made if desired by the user.
  

Data Creation

JewelSuite™ provides functionality to create data in a manual way, using the data creation function. It supports the creation of:
  • Well trajectories
  • Well logs
  • Triangulated surfaces
  • Polyline sets
  • Well designs
  • Marker sets
  • Shapes

Geological and simulation grid objects cannot be made in this process since these data types are more complicated. Creating grid objects can be done in 3 dedicated workflow processes:

  • JOA® Gridding
  • JOA® Surface Gridding
  • Easy Grid Creator
